According to Oxford online dictionary: "Abortion--the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy." If you think this is OK please watch the movie "unplanned," but you probably won't. It would be too uncomfortable for you, in fact it would probably change your viewpoint, and that would mean letting God have control of your life in this area. It would mean admitting you are wrong, possibly facing the guilt of having already made the choice to be a part of, or a participant in, having an abortion. Much easier to believe fundamental Christians are unenlightened and living in the past. God does love you . . . maybe that is why you are still reading this post.
All Christians would agree that God values life, however, when does a person become a person? God's handiwork can be seen in Psalm 139:13, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb." The unborn child is definitely God's handiwork, but when does ending the life that exists in the womb become murder? This frustrates me because why do we think we get to play God in this area? If there is a line, how could we the people or our political leaders possibly determine when God breathes life into an individual? Mankind is vain, worshippers of self in that we think we can make this kind of determination. The world teaches the worship of self and makes the self a god, and that is why worldly wisdom feels entitled to making God-like decisions.
I do have an extreme emotional reaction to Planned Parenthood, however, the real issue has never really been at the abortion clinic. My heart is for these women that feel that they are put in the position where they need to make this decision.
The issue is about love, for men and for women, and looking for love from a person and not God. It might be about worship of self and not wanting anything to upset what is seen as a personal control of one's own life. It might be shame. The option of escaping the responsibility for actions, and the consequences of sin, seems like a convenient step. An abortion is compounding the original sin and creating bigger issues.
My prayers are for hearts to be opened up to the Holy Spirit. This is where life is truly lived and love is found. There is freedom from the shackles of this world through Jesus Christ. The unplanned pregnancy may be what God has set in place to bring the unrepentant heart to Him. Christians that defend abortion are putting themselves as enemies of God.
When we take responsibility for our actions and go to God for forgiveness we are living the way God intended. When Christians and society encourage anti-life, the sinful self doesn't need much encouragement to behave sinfully.
As an unenlightened, fundamentalist, Messianic Christian I want to go to the Bible for answers. Period.
As I stated earlier, abortion is compounding some other sin and terminating a child is the next step.
The scripture found in Exodus 21:22-25 should close this debate, “When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman's husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe." The unborn child is definitely treated in God's Law as a human being.
The only argument left is that God only meant some of His principles to be followed up until Christ. Psalm 19:7-8, "The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;" These Laws are perfect and endure forever. Jesus followed them. Christians are to walk as Jesus walked.
It is time for us to put God's will before our own.
