Yes.

One thing kids can see through is someone that isn't what they appear to be. At some point as I grew older I lost the ability to see the insincerity as someone pulled my gullible strings.
My main defense has been that I appear to be a skeptic, I ask questions, and then usually they stumble in their story. I have prayed for discernment many a day.
Now some fakers I can see a mile away, these are the people that overdo their lies. They have a better story than anyone in the room on any topic. There is always something fantastic that has happened or might happen soon. From some extra ordinary financial windfall, an serious illness complete with symptoms, or waiting on something that will make them famous. Usually it is all of these things. These type of people lie about who they are a a person.
What does the Bible say about this?
Proverbs 6: 16-19 "There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers."
Wow. Here is what I think. The reason God warns against lies is that yes, His followers can lie. It is Evil and wrong, but that is the reason for the warning. What are Christians supposed to do?
Colossians 3: 9-10 "Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator." As a Christian we should be changed and not be the old self of a sinner, but put on the new self of a truth teller.
A liar may not even be saved, after all they are on the side of something that the Lord hates. That is the danger with sin. Did the liar ever have a Salvation experience? If so, they should be putting on the new self. Following God is putting off the old self and putting on the new. Christians do not want to do what the Lord hates, and want do the things He wants them to do in order to please Him.
So can Christians lie? Yes, it is called sin. Thank God for His grace, and as we strive for sanctification we should be especially thankful that He is patient. This is not an excuse for Christians to lie though, this is something that God hates and Christians should hate it as well.
Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." The wisdom is in knowing that we are doing something God hates is reason to fear, and our actions should demonstrate that.
